The Busiest Desert in the World, Reno Nevada!

The Busiest Desert in the World, Reno Nevada!

Imagine a land in the middle of the desert, parched and full of sand. Imagine this same piece of land as a hub for the world’s most famous casinos. Head hurting? Welcome to Reno, Nevada a land that thrives on gambling, a city that owes its existence to the casino. Not to be confused with Las Vegas, which is a long ways away south of Reno, another parched desert land famous for its casinos and debaucher lifestyle. Actually, when you think of casinos, Las Vegas most probably comes to mind, and maybe Atlantic City, which is a world away from the two out in New Jersey, but believe you me, Reno, Nevada holds its own against both cities.

Reno, Nevada is almost as famous for its casinos as the famous Las Vegas. Yet Reno is a class all its own. I know quite a number of people, when they hear of Reno, Nevada; the first question that pop in their heads is “Isn’t that where Las Vegas is?” It’s also most likely that you have had that same geographical confusion, thinking that one lies in the other, maybe because of both cities’ reputations as gambling cities, so to speak. But in reality, both cities are far away from each other. In fact, Reno, Nevada lies near Sacramento, California which is both in the northern part of their respective states, while Las Vegas lies a few hours drive from Los Angeles. Now while Sacramento is in the northern part of California, Los Angeles is in the southern area of the state. So to speak of Reno, Nevada as the same thing geographically and otherwise to Las Vegas, it’s like saying London is the same thing as Ireland.

Though Las Vegas has much more famous casinos than Reno, it’s not to say that Reno is inferior to Las Vegas. In my opinion, Reno has much more history in it than Las Vegas ever will. While Las Vegas boasts of its outlandish stylings, Reno has a lot more to offer than your standard casino. Reno is well-stocked with museums and other cultural institutions, though Las Vegas has its own, it doesn’t match up to what Reno has. What Reno lacks in style, it makes up for it in substance. But of course, to compare the two and make harsh comparisons isn’t fair. Las Vegas is Las Vegas. Reno, Nevada is Las Vegas plus plus.
